How I got my Foot in the Door:
The Daily Downforce

Having my right ankle reconstructed in the middle of December of 2022, I spent a lot of time scrolling social media in early 2023. My scrolling lead me to a post NASCAR Content Creator, Eric Estepp made on Twitter asking for resumes for a new writing opportunity. At this point I knew I wanted to do PR in NASCAR, so I saw this as an opportunity to better my writing skills.

Following two quick interviews, I landed a part time position at A.E. Engine on the soon to be newly launched media platform known as The Daily Downforce. Except this position was not necessarily the writing I had originally anticipated, it was a social media management role. For the next 3 months I covered race weekends through the Daily Downforce social media channels across all of the main platforms. It was by far one of the most educational 3 months of my life.

Fast forward to May of 2023, I was able to graduate High School on Friday night, watch my brother race his bandolero on Saturday night, manage the Daily Downforce social channels for their Podcast Party Bus Campaign on BJ McLeod's car at Darlington on Sunday, followed by a week filming content in North Wilkesboro for the NASCAR All-Star Race, only to return to a full-time offer as their lead social media strategist the following Monday. Yeah, it was kind of wild and crazy for a couple weeks but that goes to show how fast things happened with them.

For the next 11 months I built strategies for multiple platforms, garnered millions of impressions, built campaigns for partners, and represented the platform many weekends at the track. I became almost a face of the brand, especially on Instagram, and got to connect with some of the coolest NASCAR fans on the planet.

And I was able to eventually dabble in some writing and photography that I still consider to be part of my foundational skills. Being on the media side of this industry allowed me to better understand the process of reporters and journalists looking to tell the stories. Once I added on the responsibilities of Faction46 PR, this became a difficult act to balance. My time on this team really gave me an entirely new perspective and appreciation for what the Media side sets out to do, and ultimately I think that makes me a better PR representative because success takes involvement from both sides.
